Project Commemorates Vermont Marble

Southern Vermont will honor its marble heritage this summer with The Marble Trail. From Bennington to Isle La Motte, community celebrations will define and honor the legacy of Vermont marble, including the quarries, artistry, towns and the people behind it.

The Marble Trail is one of 6 projects under the statewide Dimensions of Marble Project working in collaboration with artists, business owners, environmentalists, historians, educators and government representatives to create an awareness of Vermont marble, past and future.

Watch local listings for related events, which include a kick-off at SVAC on July 26, and a program at The Dorset Historical Society on July 27 (see calendar).

Manchester Music Festival Offers Tri-State Venues

The Manchester Music Festival has reached across town and state lines for years, and this season will be no exception. In collaborations this summer and fall, the ensembles from the MMF will perform with the Bennington Center for the Arts-July 18; Dionondehowa Wildlife Sanctuary in Shushan, NY-Aug. 10; Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, MA-Aug. 19; the Chandler Series in Randolph, VT-Oct. 25, and others. These joint efforts provide a commonality in pairing essential elements: music, visual art and the world of nature. All spring forth from the same creative well, and fine music brings these worlds together with relative ease.

Please check the MMF website for more information: www.manchestermusicfestival.org

Rock River: Art in Its Native Habitat

The 16th Rock River Studio Tour through Williamsville, South Newfane and Newfane takes place this year July 19-20. Rock River has a unique alchemy that results from having 21 world-class artists living within a 12-mile radius. When these artists open their homes, gardens and studios to the public, the experience is comfortably intimate; everyone is invited in as a back-door neighbor.

This year's Tour includes cabinetry of curly maple; portraits and family scenes done in fabric and thread; sculptures composed from consumer and industrial leftovers; collages; ewers and raku-fired urns; and prints.
