Stratton in the year 2000 entered a new phase—not just bigger, but better. But the heart of the mountain remained the community experience, certainly among those multi-generational families who have called Stratton their winter home away from home for half a century.

2000 and Beyond—Back to our roots

Stratton, one of the first resorts to add a golf course, has been a year-round resort from the early days, but more recently has added more events to the calendar as it embraces a broader role in the regional community. Sponsoring bike races like the “Tour de Bondville,” soccer camps and an uphill footrace from the base lodge to mountaintop are some examples of that. Stratton has also signed on to be one of the chief sponsors of the Manchester and the Mountains Chamber of Commerce’s new Visitor’s Center, expected soon in Manchester.

Meanwhile, the Stratton community continues with new generations knocking at the door. Derby’s son Joshua skis here regularly, as will his three year-old granddaughter, he says. “We are already discussing whether she will start as a snowboarder or a skier,” he says. “It isn’t a question of whether she’ll ski next season—it’s a question of whether it’ll be on skis or a board.” ◊
